Design Research Methods

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a condition that reduces adults and older people’s energy levels and impacts their quality of life through mobility.

The unit involved investigating different theories and philosophies to apply them to my research plan centred on a condition that affects Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) in young adults.

My solution consisted of gaining secondary research that I had filtered through and ensured that related to my research question. With this information, I identified gaps and looked at how I could acquire answers to these gaps ethically. The knowledge and information was then presented to my peers using a research plan and I had hypothetically created questionnaires and forms for any participants in my research.

Background

Chrome fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition that impacts quality of life due to reduced mobility. There has been extensive research conducted on adults and older people who have been diagnosed with CFS as the onset of the condition occurs between 20-45 years of age. However, there is lack of research and information regarding young adults (18 – 34 years of age) who have been diagnosed with CFS at an early age.

Opportunity

The task required me to explore different philosophies and apply them to the research conducted regarding the chosen Activity of Daily Living and the condition associated with it.

I had numerous tools and methods provided that I was able to utilise to acquire knowledge and data regarding my research question. I had the opportunity to create a research diagram based on any new knowledge acquired during my research process and to explain how the methods to gain this data was applied. I also had the opportunity to create examples that could be used in real-life situations when obtaining information from people ethically.

Solution

” How Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Affects Mobility within Young Adults”

For the research and information I acquired to be usable, it had to be validated and related to the topic. I had filtered through quite a number of articles that relate to chronic fatigue syndrome, treatments, mobility, young adults, and any other relevant areas. Any articles that were not valid to the topic were not used. With these articles, I then started identifying trends or gaps that seemed to occur and continued to investigate why they were there or not. One main aspect of this whole project was to ensure there was always an open area to research.
